Tie Top & Wide Leg Shorts Set Beginner Sewing Pattern PDF reviews

Pattern was very easy to follow, definitely beginner friendly. Even for a more experienced seamstress, it was a quick, fun project to throw together. Unfortunately the top didn't fit quite right on me but the shorts are PERFECT for my more hourglass body type. They've become my go to short pattern. I added patchwork pockets and a draw string to my most recent pair. If I could change one thing it would be for this pattern to be more size inclusive. I had to make the biggest size shorts as a US 12-14.

I love love this pattern and design! The shorts were a bit blousy but I was able to make an easy adjustment that has me over the moon with the results!

The pattern was extremely easy to follow for a beginner sewer. I adore how my outfit turned out. I plan on making more in other colors!

Fairly easy to make but the pattern is huge even tho i adjusted it to make it smaller so keep that in mind

I found sizing on this set to be odd. I made the smallest size and it’s probably 2 sizes too big for me. I was able to alter the pattern a bit and make it work perfectly. That aside - the pattern is so easy, I made this in one day. I found it to be clearly written. And once I was finished I really love the set.

This pattern is super cute and very easy to sew. I modified the pattern to have a neckline binding and a second tie out of preference. The pattern is designed to be oversized so I would measure prior to making. I made an XS based on the pattern measurements. I'm typically a 6 or 8 US. Fabric came from SamHCreations on Etsy as well!

super easy to follow pattern!! the neckline is pretty wide so i’d adjust that if i make it again, but overall great pattern with clear instructions. came together in like 2 hours (im not the most advanced sewer so might be quicker for others!)

LOVE this pattern! I am a beginner - this is one of the first patterns I have ever used and it was super easy to follow along with. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and the end result turned out great!

This was my first time sewing clothing and this pattern, accompanied by the video was great! Both the shorts and top came out quite a bit too big, but I am guessing that was user error based on this being my first pattern. I had a question and the owner was very helpful by answering questions. I ended up making some adjustments to get the right fit, but will be making it again!

Easy to follow! A great first project just make sure you use a material with an obvious wrong side bc I didn’t and got hella confused but that’s my fault not the pattern. Remade with better suited material and turned out great!

This pattern was very easy to follow for a beginner! It is so cute and easy to adapt if you want to make any changes. I added an extra tie and edged it with bias tape because of my fabric choice. I’ll be making another top but definitely will trim my pattern a few sizes down because it’s quite oversized.

This was my literal first ever time sewing. I made just the shorts. It went pretty well! I struggled with a few instructions that didn’t match the youtube video. I think an updated video that matched the pattern better would be really helpful. But again, I am so new to this that I definitely craved my hand being held. Others with more experience would probably find this very straightforward. Overall i’m quite pleased and look forward to making the top!

Really happy with how my set came out, pattern was nice and I appreciated the YouTube video. Only challenge is the YouTube tutorial didn’t always line up with the pattern, for example I had almost completely finished the shorts when I realized the YouTube video never shows how to install the pockets, so I had to rip on the side seams and figure out how to put them in myself. The pattern piece for the shirt tie also confuses me a bit, it doesn’t say to cut on a fold, so I cut two as per the pattern piece, but the tie was too short. In the video the tie is one long piece that gets cut in half, so not sure what happened there. Either way I still figured it out, pretty straightforward pattern, just a little inconsistent with the video tutorial which might be helpful for other beginners to know.

This pattern is easy to follow, and the size options are great! I love the pieces they’re perfect for summer! Can’t wait to make another.

I really liked this pattern, however, the sleeves were a mess to put in. I'm not sure if I cut the pattern wrong or what exactly happened but I never struggled so much in my life to add sleeves to an outfit. I had to go ahead and adjust the sleeve pieces based on my own ideas and then was able to make them work!

Overall, a very good pattern and easy to use on shorter width fabrics. Only issue I encountered were that some of the instructions were not clear, particularly when it came to closing the pockets and attaching the waistband. I had to wing it and did my best! Sizing was accurate for bottoms- top was slightly oversized but that was probably the intention!

Some of the steps in the video don’t align with the pattern, but overall was a good first garment experience. Took a little troubleshooting and did have to reach out for an updated version of the pattern, but seller was quick to respond and fix!

Unfortunately a lot of the instructions were missing as well as part of the pattern making it quite challenging to make with a costly less than perfect final product after considering materials. It has potential to be a great pattern after some review; possibly better for someone who isn’t a beginner.

I liked this pattern. Very simple to sew, the only thing that didn’t work was the pocket placement but I think that was user error. Otherwise, good fit at the end and would say it is good for beginners. Made a few adjustments by adding darts and a second tie but that was for my preferred fit.

So far I've only made the pants but found the instructions really easy to follow for a beginner! The video was super helpful also for when I got stuck with the waistband!

Beautiful pattern, answered my question within the hour. Great for a beginner, written and video instruction I made a few tweaks here and there, I love the finished piece!!

Pattern exactly as shown in photo. Sizing is definitely a little big but the size chart is perfectly accurate! Easy to read for a beginner like me.

A very cute yet simple pattern! And pretty quick to work up. I made it in the size medium per the measurement guide, and found that it has a nice oversized fit just as it is portrayed in the item pictures. Love this!

This was super cute and fun to make! The pattern sizing is quite confusing. They have double lines for sizing to cut out? Very weird. I just guessed and it ended up being great! Turned out so cute!

Customer service was excellent, this is the first time I ever try to sew anything other than quilts and love all the step by step and tutorial video!!!!!! I made some mistakes as this is my first time sewing clothes but can’t wait to get more of her patterns!

This pattern set me up for success! I’m a total beginner and was so intimidated to start but I’m so glad I did. The diagrams in the tutorial were helpful and the end product is stunning!

super beginner friendly—I have been sewing for years but if I could go back and learn all over again this would definitely be the kind of pattern I would want to start with. Super clear instructions and very easy-to-follow graphics.
